The National Down Syndrome Society

The mission of the National Down Syndrome Society is to be the national advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The National Down Syndrome Society envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities.

The National Down Syndrome Society works to create a culture that fully accepts and includes the more than 400,000 Americans with Down syndrome. As the national advocate for people with Down syndrome, our goal is to ensure that individuals with Down syndrome are fully participating members of our communities. To this end, NDSS focuses on four areas of programming:

·  The National Policy Center creates systemic change through legislative advocacy

·  The National Buddy Walk® program honors and celebrates individuals in their    communities

·  Public Awareness initiatives bring new and positive presentations of Down syndrome to the public

·  Community programs provide comprehensive and accurate information and resources on Down syndrome
